Caprock Business Consulting is a professional services firm assisting attorneys and business owners with business valuations, litigation support, and consulting needs. Caprock Business Consulting began in 2016 and has offices in Lubbock, Texas — which provides services primarily throughout West Texas and the surrounding communities — and Athens, Georgia— serving North Georgia. Caprock Business Consulting is led by Nick Mears who has spent his entire career in the business valuation, litigation support, and business consulting industry. He is regularly engaged in the valuation of businesses and securities in connection with litigation, fair market value measurements, estate and gift taxes, and mergers and acquisitions among other purposes.
Nick’s unyielding commitment to quality has helped him earn national recognition by being recognized by the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts as one of the top “40 Under 40” individuals in the U.S. Locally, he was recognized by the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce as one of the top “20 Under 40” individuals in the city. Our steady growth since 2016 reflects our talent and integrity, and our ability to stay one step ahead of the issues our clients face in an ever-changing business landscape.
Nick Mears MBA, CVA, MAFF
Nick Mears is a native of Lubbock, Texas, and the founder of Caprock Business Consulting. Nick leads the firm’s strategic initiatives and is involved in all aspects of the firm’s services, including business valuations, litigation support services, and consulting.
Nick has extensive knowledge in the business valuation industry having testified in trials and hearings on issues including the valuation of businesses and business interests as well as issues related to marital dissolution, shareholder disputes, and economic damages and lost profits analysis. He has been involved in numerous appraisal processes as an independent appraiser and as a third-party neutral appraiser. He is also trained as a collaborative financial neutral and regularly assists clients in mediation, settlement agreements, collaborative litigation, trial preparation, and expert testimony.
Outside of a litigation context, Nick has helped hundreds of business owners seek capital from traditional and non-traditional sources including bankers and private parties. He has performed hundreds of valuations for various purposes including ESOPs, SBA, and commercial lending, tax, financial reporting, and transactional consulting. Nick also helps business owners prepare for retirement and helping ongoing companies reach their maximum potential.
In addition to being a Certified Valuation Analyst® (CVA), Nick holds a Master Analyst in Financial Forensics® (MAFF) designation awarded by the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (NACVA). The NACVA is a global, professional association of over 7,000 members that delivers training and certification in consulting fields such as business valuation, financial litigation forensics, expert witnessing, forensic accounting, mergers and acquisitions, business and intellectual property damages, healthcare consulting, and exit strategies. NACVA is a member of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence™ (ICE™).
Nick was an elected Standards Board member with the NACVA from 2019-2022 and is currently an Instructor for the National Training and Development Team for the NACVA. He was also recognized by the NACVA in 2018 as a 40 Under Forty Honoree who “demonstrates excellence, superior quality, and the spirit of pioneering so integral to our profession and our organizations,” said Brien Jones, Chief Operations Officer and Executive Vice President of Business Development for the NACVA. Nick was also recognized by the Young Professionals of Lubbock’s Top 20 Under 40 in 2017.
Nick received a Master in Business Administration with a focus in Entrepreneurship from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration with focuses in accounting and management.
In addition to his professional activities, Nick is involved in local volunteer programs including Rotary and the Lubbock Angel Investors Network. He enjoys hiking and spending time in the great outdoors when possible.
